But how does the VUCA environment affect companies?

The VUCA environment is an opportunity for growth. Furthermore, one must adapt and extract maximum benefit—that is, the advantage of uncertainty. In other words, you must act with speed and agility to identify new opportunities defined by these changes. This allows for a competitive advantage. However, despite the importance of VUCA, some experts, such as American anthropologist Jamais Cascio, argue that the emergence of technological advances, social transformations, and geopolitical changes goes beyond volatility and uncertainty, and therefore, this concept cannot be applied 100%. In fact, as early as 2018, he proposed the arrival of a new successor term called BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, and Incomprehensible).

Has the VUCA environment died or evolved?

The most sensible approach is to recognize evolution and adaptation to the world. VUCA is likely not the only way to describe our environment, but it remains a valuable conceptual tool for understanding the transformation of the world we live in and for achieving business success.
